Croeso i Abertawe! Welcome to Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom for ACM Conference on Conversational User Interfaces 2027 from July 26-28, 2027.

CUI 2027 welcomes the community to Swansea, Wales, to explore the theme Everyday Embodiments. Inspired by Ludwig Wittgenstein’s transformative years visiting Swansea (1942-1947), where he argued that “meaning is use”, we move beyond the logic of the laboratory to the “rough ground” of everyday life. Grounded in the local history of the iconic 1947 photograph of Wittgenstein, standing not before a blackboard of equations, but a wall of public graffiti, CUI 2027 will champion the everyday: the situated, messy, and vernacular contexts where language actually lives.

Ludwig Wittgenstein in front of graffiti in a Swansea railway shelter, often mistaken for a classroom blackboard. This backdrop visualises our theme: a turn away from analytical logic toward the "rough ground" of everyday public speech.

Drawing on Swansea poet Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood—a play for voices, the conference also examines the critical transition from disembodied speech to embodied interaction. As conversational agents leave smart speakers & mobiles to enter the bodies of robots and physical devices, the boundary between voice and agent blurs. We invite work that explores the polyphony of human community, from the gossip of a Welsh village to the street languages of the Global South. By centring Everyday Embodiments, CUI 2027 aims to ground the future of AI not in abstract data, but in the rich, tangible, and embodied reality of human experience.
